Christmas cheer

This week we have a Christmas contract to complete.  The activities include Snow globe decorations, Christmas cards, origami Christmas trees, plays, narratives and much more.
This morning, Marcus ran a workshop to teach us how to make the origami trees, we all ended up with a great result.  Thank you to Marcus for your time and patience with us :)

Technology Day

Today we had the pleasure of having a mix of Junior, Middle, and Senior students participate in a range of technology activities.  Room 20 had to design and create catapults.  Every single kid had a job to do and worked extremely well together to all produce successful products.
We judged the groups on teamwork, design, creativity and the ability to launch and how far it could launch.
The winning team included: Abi, Nia, Harlow, Levon and Jake - Congratulations!

Tinkering

Thank you to Maui's lovely Grandad for coming in for an impromptu visit to show us some of the treasures you have been collecting.  The kids were really interested in how these inventions work.
Please feel free to visit us again with any more tinker toys you might come across :)

Inquiry Maths

This week we've been looking at using our knowledge of geometric shapes and fractions to create an optical illusion (the viewer should leave with the impression that objects are moving, vibrating, pulsating or warping).

The students will have 5 tries, discussing patterns - fractions decimals, quadrilaterals they may see.

You can give it a go too by drawing a grid 10x10 and experimenting with breaking the squares into triangles, rectangles and other shapes.

Huge Congratulations to our speech finalists.  They did an absolutely amazing job of getting up on the stage in front of 3 principals, teachers and fellow peers.  They delivered their messages with passion and confidence.  Well done to all!
